Handmade is Love

We believe in the power of handmade - the ability to transform a humble skein of yarn into countless possibilities. It is time and effort set aside, it is willingness to slow down, it is a universal way of saying "you are loved"!

About the Knitpicks Brand

We go right to the source and work directly with trusted mills and manufacturers around the world. Our hands-on approach from start to finish gives us the freedom to make the yarns and tools you want at lower prices without ever sacrificing quality.

Streamlining Retail

Streamlining Retail

Unlike traditional retail - we are both the middleman and the retailer, which allows us to keep costs low while maintaining high standards. Suddenly, knitting a sweater doesn’t cost $200 and a full set of beautiful tools isn’t just a distant dream.

Global Sourcing

Global Sourcing

By working with trusted partners all over the world, we source fiber-rich areas and manufacturers with expertise in high-volume production. This allows us to get the best yarns and tools into your hands.

Ethical Manufacturing

Ethical Manufacturing

We work closely with responsible partners and spend several months of travel each year to ensure safe and respectful working conditions that exclude child labor. So while we’re proud of our affordability, we’ll never cut costs at the expense of ethics.

Our Commitment

Our Commitment

Knit Picks strives to be a place of comfort and joy—a true community of fiber lovers who support and care for one another. We know a true community is built one person at a time, made stronger and better when its foundation is built upon a diverse chorus of voices.

Our craft—and community—can only grow stronger and better if we work to create a space that is safe, welcoming, and above all, amplifies voices that have long been marginalized. As part of our mission, we are committed to working with a diverse community of designers, models, and small business owners.

If you’re a BIPOC designer, we’re reaching out. If you’re a BIPOC-owned business, we’re reaching out. We’re holding space. We’re ready to see the craft evolve, change, and grow. We are here to support and serve you.

For ten years we have worked to shine our spotlight on independent designers, and will continue to use our reach and influence to bring new voices into this space. We can and should do more. We commit to sharing the stories and work of Black crafters, Indigenous crafters, and crafters of color in all aspects of our business, as a direct reflection of the rich diversity within the greater crafting community.

Knit Picks is a small team of crafters, and we can’t do it without you.

The Backstory

Backstory

In 2002, Knit Picks was started when Kelley and Bob Petkun combined their respective powers in fiber crafts and engineering—all with the aim of creating beautiful products that were also consistent and reasonably priced.

Meet the Team

We are knitters, too!

We love quality yarns in rich colors, and needles with sharp, well-tapered tips. We like patterns for practical, finished projects that are challenging and interesting, but never confusing. Ultimately, we share our favorite tools and yarns so that everyone can knit happy.
